Curtisville welcomes new 2nd grade teacher

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Chrystina Richter to Deer Lakes School District!
"I am excited to join Deer Lakes to be a part of such an amazing community," Mrs. Richter said. "I have seen how wonderful the schools and staff are from the experiences my daughter has had. I love how involved, caring, and hands-on all the teachers are."
Mrs. Richter attended Geibel Catholic High School. She earned a Bachelors and Masters degree at California University of Pennsylvania, which is now PennWest University.
This will be Mrs. Richter's 19th year teaching, having previously taught for 18 years as a Learning Support teacher at Uniontown Area School District. She will be a second-grade teacher at Curtisville Primary.
Fittingly, Mrs. Richter's second-grade teacher inspired her to be an educator.
"She was one who never gave up on her students," Mrs. Richter said. "She always took the time to help you understand the concepts being taught. She never accepted 'I just can't do it,' as an answer. She made learning fun. She made everyone in class feel like they belonged and that we were a family."
Mrs. Richter's passion for education has increasingly grown throughout her career.
"I have a personal love for learning and also children," Mrs. Richter said. "I feel as even adults we never stop learning, and I want to instill in children a love for learning. I enjoy the area of education because there is no greater feeling than when a student is struggling with a concept and they finally understand it. The student is so excited that they learned the concept and you know that you were a part of that process."
